Keep Your Oral Hygiene Up

If you’re like most people, summer means a stronger desire for an ice-cold sports drink or soda. To stay cool in the heat, you could even stock up on ice cream and popsicles. While having one of these treats every now and then isn’t usually a problem, if you’re constantly sipping and snacking on sugary treats, you’re much more likely to develop tooth decay or periodontal disease. This is because tap water contains a naturally occurring mineral known as “fluoride.” This is what prevents your teeth from decaying. Fluoride is especially beneficial in young children because adult teeth are still developing.
Do not use your teeth as tools
Your teeth assist you in chewing food, retaining saliva, and smiling! They’re not meant for opening packages, crunching ice in your drink, or biting your fingernails. As a result, you may have a cracked or chipped tooth. Only use your teeth for their intended purpose.
Put on a mouthguard
Getting outside and staying active is a great way to have fun while also maintaining your physical health. Conversely, contact sports are a common cause of knocked-out or broken teeth. Wearing a mouthguard while playing sports can significantly reduce your chances of injuring your smile.
